Visiting An Allergy Specialist For Your Asthma

There are a lot of different types of asthma that a person can go through. For some their asthma is onset by exercise, but others have nocturnal, nighttime asthma. Asthma can be a scary condition to have to go through. One of the most common types of asthma is allergy-induced asthma. This particular asthma can be hard to recognize at first, but can be treated once it is diagnosed. Going to the allergy specialist and getting treated for your allergies is an integral part of overcoming allergy induced asthma. Here are a few things that you can expect to go through when you visit an allergy specialist.

Shots

Going to the allergy specialist for the first time is not going to be one of the most pleasant experiences of your life. However, it could be one of the most important experiences in your life. The allergy specialist is going to do their best to find out exactly what you are allergic to. One of the most common ways for the doctor to do this is to expose you to allergens. The doctor is going to give you a series of shots and watch how your body reacts to them. These are not super deep shots, but usually go just under the skin. If your body has a severe reaction to one of the allergens then you are allergic to that allergen. It is not uncommon to be exposed to over 50 different allergens, but that means that you are going to have 50 different shots. it can be unpleasant but remember that it is to help treat your asthma. The allergy specialist may also do a little bit of blood work to dig deeper into some of your allergy problems.

Immunizations

In an effort to help you overcome your allergies and thus treat your asthma condition, you may start going through weekly allergy immunizations. The immunizations act very much like a vaccine in that your body will be exposed to a very small dose of an allergen so it can build up an immunity to the allergens. Your doctor will know what allergens to expose you to, and how strong a dose. You may have to go to the doctor for an extended period of time to become immune to the different allergens. While the process can be hard, it is all worth it when you do not have to worry about allergens or asthma.
